The Fall and the Fragments

When the deity Auril was struck down during the fall known as ‘The Shattering’ when she fell from the heavens, fragments of her divine essence broke away and scattered across the frozen expanse of the Ice Dales. For generations, these shards lay dormant beneath the glacial wastes.

It was during the early eras of the northern wastes that the Yvadrim discovered these fallen divine fragments. Recognising its immense power, they harnessed the shards, drawing directly from the raw, elemental energies of the Plane of Ice.

They used the fragment's power to bend the element of ice to their will, and their society flourished creating an oasis amidst an unforgiving snow covered wasteland. However, mortal hands were never meant to wield the heart of a fallen demi-god. Over decades, the Yvadrim grew over-reliant on the fragment's output, drawing ever deeper upon its divine reserves to sustain their growing civilisation.

Gradually, the delicate balance between their society and the Plane of Ice began to fracture. The magical frost crystals grew unstable, leaking catastrophic levels of ambient frost energy that defied the warding runes. The unnatural cold they had once kept at bay surged back inward a thousandfold. In a matter of seconds, the warming fires flickered out, the internal magic froze solid, and an absolute, inescapable frost consumed the city turning the Yvadrim and everyone within it into silent, frozen monuments of their own hubris.
