The Lotari, The First People

In the Beginning Before the gods existed and the worlds came into being, before the Outer Planes crystallised around the weight of the material plane, before even the primordials churned the elemental chaos, there was the AO, the Overgod
AO reached into the infinite reservoir of its own nature and pulled out aspects of itself.
Concepts too large and too volatile to remain contained within a single omnipotent consciousness.
AO created the first gods and the first people to worship them to feed their existence, the Lotari.
The Lotari started primitive but quickly started making things, the first huts became the first houses.
The first villages became the first cities
The first scrawlings became the first book
And not long after the first disagreement was forged the first sword.

They stared upward at the incomprehensible lights called the stars and felt the same awe as their ancestors had.
Beyond the stars were the planes, and beyond the planes was something else to explore because the infinite existence couldn't possibly have an end as that was not AO’s design.
This had to be where the Gods were and the Lotari were determined to reach them but the universe was vast.

Serath Vol was the first to study the sky and map it ready for the first voyages of exploration to find the Gods, she sat on a mountaintop for forty days recording the movement of the stars.
When she came down, she told her people that among the stars, there were absences. Points in the sky that were not merely dark but actively dark. They set sail there expecting these places to be the homes of the Gods.
What they found were not Gods but instead there were Dark Stars, enormous natural machines churning out pre darkness to counter the stars spreading light throughout the universe as part of the architecture of everything….And they leaked.
They called this residue leaking from these shadowy goilaths, Dark Star Essence.

The Lotari engineers found this negative essence to have a repulsive effect with positive energies, they built machines to force them together to see what would happen and it collapsed the walls of reality itself creating the first engines capable of breaking through to other dimensions.

They travelled throughout the multiverse spreading further and further and those who stopped the journey were eventually changed forever depending on where they settled.
Some stayed in a place of wonder and madness and named it the Faywild becoming the elves, others became obsessed with stone and became the dwarves.
Those Lotari who got lost during dimensional travel and were isolated in harsher, more brutal regions, or altered by war, became orcs, goblinoids and some who stayed close to Dark Stars became contaminated by them and evolved into Illithids.
